Yo. but listen. micro-cuff-ings in movement. minor gestures (maybe) of what cuffings can do, in surplus (in movement). the wiggle and slippage/spillage (not the reverb). not the edgings. not quite smudgings. or maybe? but a smudge isn't always as polyrhythmic -- but when the slider and pickings become note-ing, a multiplicity with both/and(s) of many inflections, imagine the minor - not holding but foldings of guitar strings- as you pluck with one hand above, but wiggle and slide along with your other. it's not the wiggle so much as how the wiggle maybe is one technique to make felt the relation. how that note becomes a cuffing through making more palpable the elasticity of that relational the how, of a noting in surplus -- not a divergent away, nor a  stop. not discrete re-direct of one note towards another, not simply turned around or about.

 --- this is of a minor scale. scalings (to be more exact, although ironically of a movement that is not exacting). the pickering is flummoxed and folding still, but does not land. it folds forward but also has 'lint' and eddys.

Rather then looking for cuffs -- what if techniques were developed to make the 'lint' and eddys more palpable -- developing a sensitivity for that -------- because if a cuff is in relation, of relation (in movement, virtual/actual becoming) then identifying or capturing may not actually 'land' where we think it does (in perception). maybe it emerges in a lint(ing) of a kind. but also, and else-where.

acoustic lint (but not as ear worms the cycle endlessly through). what is that if let go from what can be identified once  settled.

that is why thinking through ecologies of fold/cuff/pocket may foreground multiplicitities/scales/durations (in the making - whether of experience or perception) that can not be separated out or differentiated through kinds an iconographies, but qualities and infections that make felt the relation.

  1. Some more thoughts on lint:
    If 'lint' is a collection of things that, seemingly and sometimes inexplicably, tend to pool together than taking note of emergent lint could reveal imperceptible or peripheral events as acts of cuffing.

  2. Donna: this is great! Strange, this pooling, and the way it creates a ridge, an edge. I also really like the idea of acts of cuffing. Nice to conceive of the cuff as a movement.
