Speculations on...

It is late Thursday. My place is silent but inside me thoughts make some music. Writing, facebook chat, skype. All those conversations amongst the silent room becoming voices and voices becoming writing. Many voices, polyphony.

"Speculations on form"; "What is a concept"; "Machines, manchette, abstractions in its concrete presence"; "Eddies"; "The trouble between adornment and form"; the problem between use and useless, "Catastrophe theory", shifts on direction, discrete change of ways, soundclouds, skype. I hear the sound of performatic cuffs, I see pieces of wood, stamples on posts, infrathin.

The troubles are being placed in a field that foregrounds what was on the background. Speculations on form, the concept and its intercessor, the concept as an intercessor. The arousal of things that "weren't there". The history of a cuff, its social contexts, gender issues, fashion issues, creative troubles, shift of direction.

The baroque fold and the contemporary cuff and some music across these poles. Some music I hear in the silence of my place while thought moves towards a concept. This is how it sounds like:

I talk to you, I receive waving letters from afar through skype, texts, the thought in the act. I hear voices whose faces I still did not see. But these particles are very concrete.

"A concept is what it does".

"(...) just hearing these things from you makes me think of how much was going on again today."

"It is not as if all this was not always present (in me), but now it has a space in which it can be differently".

"If there is no support,  we are always falling, doing constantly self-reequilibration. But we are so use to it,  it became so much an habit, that we are constantly forgetting about it."

"Like what D&G say in What Is Philosophy? 'In this sense the concept is act of thought, it is thought operating at infinite (although greater of lesser) speed.' (21) So yes, the cuff as intercessor!"

"a careful thinking about what marks a presence/absence, such as a cuff"

"Happiness to me was the immediateness of the environment".

So what does pocket, fold and cuff do? It makes differentiation pass through. It reminds us by creating new memories. Myriads of "exoconsistency": drawings, photo, sounds, lines, clay-traces, parisian descending cuff, cuffs form Cerrado, a wasp, bird of prey, human and non-human cuffs, poetry towards a pocket, a fold, cuff loops (a pedagogy of the concept).

Speculations on form. It places troubles and turn things visible. What is at stake that wasn't before the arising of a concept? A landscape, smooth and striated textures. Ontology, ethics, social patters, escapes, arts, subjectivity, music.

"The relativity and absoluteness of the concept are like its pedagogy and its ontology, its creation and its self-positing, its ideality and its reality—the concept is real without being actual, ideal without being abstract. The concept is defined by its consistency, its endoconsistency [i.e., that of its components or parts] and exoconsistency [i.e., that of its relation to other concepts], but it has no reference: it is self-referential; it posits itself and its object at the same time as it is created. Constructivism unites the relative and absolute. (22)"

And it suits my heart. Folding. Unfolding. More than systole and diastole, a fold to the body. What happens when the heart becomes an eddy, an helix and series of folds? What wasn't there and now is? Speculative forms and its concrete heart.

Speculations on form turns a contemporary heart into a baroque one. And so we do a whirling dance.

Thank you everyone for this multitudinous forms of affects and we are in the third class yet!

  1. Wow. Thank you Cadu. So much encompassed so succinctly. The video revealing the heart (as a cuff) is so extraordinarily beautiful. Life changed! Never the same again. Thank you.
